MPs declare May “MS Awareness Month”

Wednesday, May 3, 2006, 1:20 p.m. - May is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month and MPs from all parties will help mark the occasion with activities taking place on Parliament Hill.

WHO:

  • Members of Parliament led by Mr. Ted Menzies (Macleod, Alberta) and Dr. Carolyn Bennett, (St. Paul’s, Ontario)
  • Representatives from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, including last year’s top Ottawa area MS Read-A-Thon students Vithyaa Premjeyanth from Adrienne Clarkson Elementary and Corrine Dobson from Pope John XXIII Elementary. Together they raised $300 and read an amazing 110 books in this popular MS Society of Canada fundraiser.

WHAT:

Vithyaa and Corrine will have their photo taken with Mr. Ted Menzies, Conservative Member of Parliament for Macleod, in honour of their achievements in the MS Read-A-Thon, the MS Society’s national in-school fundraiser that raises over $1.6 million annually.

Following the photo, Mr. Ted Menzies, Dr. Carolyn Bennett and representatives from the MS Society of Canada will present red carnations to MPs as they enter the House of Commons for Question Period. **

WHEN/WHERE:

  • 1:20 PM – Corrine & Vithyaa will have their photo taken in the rotunda, outside the green room
  • 1:30 PM – Carnation boutonnières will be distributed to MPs in the foyer of the House of Commons
