Menzies Shares Organic Apples with Local School
January 19, 2010
Macleod, Alberta –– Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod, presented 400 organic apples to the students of West Meadow Elementary School in Claresholm, AB. The apples were presented to Menzies by the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA) local representative Jo-Anne Wilson of Nanton. “I am very happy to participate in this initiative with the Canadian Health Food Association,” stated Menzies. “I am glad to be able to support the school’s breakfast program with these apples, and to encourage students to eat healthy Canadian products which will contribute to a healthy lifestyle.” The CHFA selected five Members of Parliament across Canada and presented them with 400 organic, Canadian-grown apples to donate to a worthy cause in their riding. The CHFA is Canada’s largest national trade association dedicated to the natural and organic products industry. The association represents growers, manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and importers of natural and organic products, including foods, vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal products, homeopathics, sports nutrition products, fibres and health and beauty aids. CHFA member products support Canadians seeking optimal health and well-being. “The CHFA is dedicated to informing Canadians about the benefits in achieving optimal health through the use of natural health and organic products,” said Carl Carter, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Policy Development for the CHFA. “Mr. Menzies’ participation demonstrates his commitment to keeping Canadians healthy and informed. We are thrilled that these organic apples are making their way across the country, in this case, offering the students at West Meadow a nourishing option for their morning snack.” West Meadow Elementary School Vice-Principal Lynne Penniket and a group of grade 5 students accepted the apples on behalf of the school.
