September 19, 2006

OTTAWA — Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Cooperation, was proud to make a statement in the House of Commons congratulating the Town of Fort Macleod on being selected as the location for the new Alberta Police and Peace Officer Training Centre.

“Rising today in the House of Commons gives me the opportunity to tell all Canadians about the accomplishment made by Fort Macleod and recognize the hard work that the community put into the bid to become the future home of Alberta’s police and peace officers,” said Mr. Menzies.

Full text of Mr. Menzies’ statement is below.

“Mr. Speaker, it is my pleasure to rise today in the House to recognize a great achievement for the Town of Fort Macleod in my riding. Fort Macleod was selected out of twenty-nine other towns and cities in Alberta to become the home of the new Alberta Police and Peace Officer Training Centre. This Centre will be a unique facility in Canada providing centralized training for new municipal police recruits and peace officers as well as professional development for all of Alberta’s police and peace officers.

Fort Macleod has a long and proud history of policing, going back its early days when the Northwest Mounted Police set up barracks there in 1874. This new training centre will revitalize the community of Fort Macleod and provide Alberta’s police and peace officers with the training they need to serve and protect our communities. I would like to congratulate Mayor Patience the citizens of Fort Macleod on this achievement and look forward to welcoming new police and peace officers to training in Fort Macleod.”
