Menzies Excited About New Funding For Seniors’ Programs In Macleod

Ottawa — Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, is pleased to congratulate four organizations from his riding who recently received funding under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

The NHSP provides funding to non-profit organizations for projects that encourage seniors to get involved in their communities. The Boys & Girls Club of Crowsnest Pass, the Kainai First Nations Elders Association, the Okotoks and District Seniors’ Club, and the Town of Claresholm were all selected by the NHSP to receive funding in the upcoming year. The NHSP is giving a total of $93,350 to the four organizations.

“I applaud those organizations that received NHSP funding,” said Menzies. “It is important that we support seniors and help them to continue to contribute to our communities.”

The New Horizons for Seniors Program supports the Government’s commitment to strengthening our country’s social foundations and promoting the well-being of individuals, families and communities. In Budget 2007, the Government of Canada announced an additional investment of $10 million per year for two new components of the NHSP, in order to raise awareness of elder abuse, and to provide capital assistance for upgrades to facilities and equipment used for existing seniors’ programs. Projects funded under these new components will be announced in the spring of 2008.
