Governments of Canada and Alberta Create Jobs, Build Communities in Rocky View
May 22, 2009

Rocky View--Residents of Rocky View will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to upgrade the Bragg Creek Potable Water Treatment Plant, announced today by Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and the Honourable Ted Morton, MLA for Foothills-Rocky View and Minister of Sustainable Resource Development. This project is just one example of the commitment of both governments to strengthen the economy, create jobs and improve the quality of life for its residents.

This project will enhance local facilities and services and create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest.

The governments of Canada and Alberta will each invest up to $1,370,033.00 in the project. The Municipal District of Rocky View will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost of up to $4,110,101.00.

“This funding is important for the MD of Rocky View.  The funds will be used to build a plant to provide potable water treatment and intake to the area.” said Menzies.  “I am proud to be a part of a Government that recognizes the need for this important service.”

“I am very happy that Bragg Creek residents will soon have clean, safe drinking water accessible from their taps.” said Morton. “This funding is a good example of the 3 levels of government working cooperatively in the best interest of our citizens.”

This project is one of more than 73 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $227 million announced on May 21. The governments of Canada and Alberta have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Alberta communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
