Governments of Canada and Alberta Create Jobs, Build Communities in Pincher Creek
May 22, 2009
Pincher Creek--Residents of Pincher Creek will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to upgrade the Pincher Creek Multi-purpose facility with solar power, announced today by Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Evan Berger, MLA for Livingstone-Macleod. This project is just one example of the commitment of both governments to strengthen the economy, create jobs and improve the quality of life for its residents. This project will enhance local facilities and services and create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest. The governments of Canada and Alberta will each invest up to $91,833.00 in the project. The Town of Pincher Creek will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost of up to $275,500.00 “This funding commitment reaffirms the importance of partnership in accomplishing significant and positive change in our communities, our province and our country.” said Menzies. “And the upgrades will be a positive step towards protecting our environment for years to come.” “The provincial government is pleased to partner with the federal government and the Town of Pincher Creek in this environmentally-friendly, solar energy project,” said Berger. “Residents will continue to enjoy the swimming pool at the Pincher Creek Multi-purpose Facility, but by installing approximately 100 solar collectors, heating the water will come at a lower cost to the town and the environment.” This project is one of more than 73 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $227 million announced on May 21. The governments of Canada and Alberta have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Alberta communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
