June 13, 2008
COLEMAN, Alberta – The community of Coleman will benefit from the Museum Competencies Enhancement Project of the Crowsnest Historical Society, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada. Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament (Macleod), and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Crowsnest Historical Society. Funding of $20,290 will enable the organization to create additional policies, revise and update current policies, and institute museological accession and collection management procedures. “The Government of Canada is proud to support local Museums in their efforts to provide all Canadians with access to their history,” said Minister Verner. “We are committed to supporting projects that will enrich the cultural life of this community and create a legacy of excellence. “The Government of Canada’s support for the Crowsnest Historical Society will enable the organization to create a visual resource to benefit local citizens and visitors from throughout Canada.” said Mr. Menzies. “The Crowsnest Museum, as custodian of a perpetually expanding collection of more than 50 000 artifacts, remains passionate about maintaining our notoriety as one of the best rural museums in Alberta,” said Donna Kubian, President of Crowsnest Historical Society. “Funding from Canadian Heritage enables us to effect the necessary updates to our current criteria and collection management, while continuing to pursue our overall mandate: to cultivate a global appreciation and understanding of the importance of the cultural history of the Crowsnest Pass and its people.” The Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Museums Assistance Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides financial support to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage. |
