Government continues to function even though Parliament is not sitting
December 05, 2008

Canada’s democratically elected Government continues to function even though Parliament is not sitting.  It was a presupposed plan by the Opposition that chose to cripple Parliament only weeks after the election where Canadians made their wishes known. However, our Government will continue to deliver positive results, following on our decisions that have kept Canada`s economic growth leading the G7 countries now and in the coming year.  All programs and services will continue to be delivered to Canadians on a daily basis.

I will be even more actively engaged along with Finance Minister Flaherty in extensive pre-budget consultations. We are meeting with individual Canadians, Members of Parliament from all parties, industries and stakeholders as we prepare the next budget. A budget that will help meet the needs of all Canadians in this difficult economic environment that is impacting the world.  Pre-budget submissions have been received from a variety of industries and stakeholders from across the country and analysis continues on those submissions.

Minister Flaherty will deliver the results of this broad consultation to Parliament in the form of a Budget on January 27th. I am optimistic that the opposition parties will take time to reflect on this document and will work with our government to help bring stability and hope back to Canadians.

I continue to work hard for my constituents and for the well being of Canadians, and I wish all the citizens of Macleod a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with good health and continued prosperity.

Sincerely,
Ted Menzies, M.P.
Macleod
