Getting Things Done on Softwood: Menzies Pleased with Progress
August 24, 2006
CLARESHOLM, ALBERTA — Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod is happy with yesterday’s announcement that a clear majority of lumber companies in all regions of the country have given their support to the softwood lumber deal announced to the House of Commons on April 27, 2006.

“I am pleased that the agreement is moving forward,” said Menzies. “The Canadian forest industry has been waiting for a solution to this dispute for far too long.”

Canada’s New Government will proceed with implementation of this agreement when Parliament resumes sitting this fall. That is when Members of Parliament will be asked to support the agreement backed by:
  •   Two national governments.
  •   All major softwood-producing provinces
  •   And the clear majority of Canadian producers.
“Finally receiving consensus for the deal is remarkable,” said Menzies. “I look forward to the fall session when we can bring our progress forward in the House.”
