Canada’s New Government Cuts Government Waste and Pays Down National Debt
September 29, 2006
OTTAWA – Earlier this week, The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance and the Honourable John Baird, President of the Treasury Board, announced the elimination of wasteful and ineffective programs, reducing government spending and paying down the national debt. Ted Menzies, Parliamentary Secretary for International Cooperation and Member of Parliament for Macleod, applauds this decision.

“Our government has reviewed its expenditures and found $1 billion in savings for the people of Macleod and for all Canadians,” said Mr. Menzies. “As a responsible government, we need to spend responsibly. These savings reflect our government’s commitment to ensuring tax dollars are invested to deliver the results and value that Canadians expect.”

In addition to saving through more efficient government spending and tighter management, Canada’s New Government is reducing the national debt by $13.2 billion dollars.

“Paying down the national debt provides savings to tax payers, both now and in the future,” added Mr. Menzies. “Our government is committed to delivering results and providing value to Canadians for their hard earned tax dollars. Our government has curbed wasteful and ineffective spending while paying down our debt, achieving those goals.”
