![]() Dear Friends, Spring has finally sprung in the riding of Macleod and in Ottawa. I spent the winter months helping to prepare Economic Action Plan 2013, and I am pleased to take the time to provide you with an overview of Canada’s plan for jobs, growth and long-term prosperity. Budget 2013 is a continuation of our Government’s responsible plan to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for Canadians. Since the depth of the global economic recession, our economy has created more than 950,000 net new jobs – giving us the best record among advanced economies. While Canada’s economy continues to grow and generate jobs, we still face substantial threats from a fragile global economy. This year’s budget builds on the strong foundation our Government has laid since 2006, for job creation and sustaining a higher quality of life for hardworking Canadian families. Some of the measures in Budget 2013 will directly benefit the province of Alberta, such as:
Additionally, Budget 2013 confirmed our Government’s continued all-time record support for hospitals, schools, and other important health and social services in Alberta. In fact, in 2013-14, federal transfer support to Alberta will be almost $1.8 billion higher than under the former federal Liberal government. Another initiative contained in Economic Action Plan 2013 is the introduction of our Building Canada plan. This plan represents the largest investment in job creating infrastructure in Canada’s history, with over $53 billion new and existing funding for provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure. Some significant elements of the Building Canada plan include: the Community Improvement Fund, which supports local community projects; the Building Canada Fund, which supports major economic projects of significance; and the P3 Canada Fund, which supports innovative ways to build infrastructure projects faster and provide better value for taxpayer dollars through public-private partnerships. For further information on the Building Canada Plan, please visit: http://www.infrastructure.gc.ca/prog/bcp-pcc-eng.html. Economic Action Plan 2013 also outlines our low-tax plan to eliminate the deficit and balance the Budget in 2015. Our Government will continue to eliminate the deficit by controlling government spending, and significantly increasing investments in important areas such as education and health care. For additional information on the measures in Budget 2013, I encourage you to visit: http://actionplan.gc.ca/. As always, I look forward to seeing many of you in various events in the riding. Should you know of any special events taking place in the riding of Macleod this summer, please do not hesitate to contact my office with information. I look forward to continuing to represent you and all of my constituents in the riding of Macleod during the remainder of this parliamentary session. Please remember that, should you have any questions or concerns you wish to express, you are always welcome to contact my office. Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and I wish you all a pleasant and relaxing summer filled friends, family, and fun! Sincerely, Ted |
