Did You Know That… Recently, Minister Paradis announced investments that are a part of your Government’s plan to protect and preserve jobs in Canada’s forestry sector in B.C., Saskatchewan, Quebec and New Brunswick. Our top priority remains the economy. With the economic recovery still fragile, your Government will continue to take action to protect jobs in Canada, including important forestry jobs throughout the country. Each and every day, tens of thousands of Canadian families and workers depend on the forestry sector for their livelihoods. It is an important part of the Canadian economy. That is why Minister Paradis is announcing investments in pulp and paper mills across Canada. The investments are being made through the Pulp and Paper Green Transformation Program and will improve the competitiveness and environmental performance of pulp and paper mills across the country. At a time of economic uncertainty, when Canada is leading the world out of recession, Canadians want us to focus on the economy, and creating jobs and economic growth. Your Government is committed to supporting families and communities across Canada, and supporting families and communities is one of the themes of the Next Phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. We need to support communities because organized criminal gangs are making communities less safe across Canada. The Youth Gang Prevention Fund was created by your Government five years ago to reduce youth gang activity and youth violence, and we have recently announced that we are renewing the Youth Gang Prevention Fund for another five years. In cities across Canada, it will continue to support effective crime prevention initiatives that target at-risk youth and rescue them from the dangerous, dead-end life of gang crime. We sincerely hope that all parliamentarians will support the renewal of this worthwhile initiative.
