Did you know...? - Edition 87
June 10, 2011

Did You Know That… Recently, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty re-introduced the Next Phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan to complete Canada’s economic recovery. Our Government is focused on the economy, supporting hard-working Canadians and their families and completing the economic recovery.  As part of the plan we will keep taxes low, undertake additional targeted investments to support jobs and growth, improve the quality of life for seniors, families and children, control government spending, and stay on track to eliminate the deficit. At a time when budgets are tight, our Government believes that taxpayers should not be burdened with an annual $27 million per vote subsidy for political parties. That is why we will follow through on our commitment to eliminate the per-vote subsidy in this budget and keep corporate and union donations out of our political system. We are focused on securing our economic recovery. We are focused on improving the financial security of Canadian workers, seniors and families. We have a plan to achieve these goals – a plan that is working – and we need to stay on track. Canadians gave us a mandate to stay focused on the economy and pass measures aimed at strengthening both our economic recovery and our country, and we’re following through on these commitments. Did You Know That… Statistics Canada recently announced over 22,000 net new jobs were created in May. Canadians gave us a strong mandate to focus on building a stable economy and securing jobs. Canada’s steady job growth demonstrates our Government is on the right track for hardworking families. Canada has now seen over 560,000 net new jobs created since July 2009, with seven straight quarters of economy growth. While that’s positive news, too many Canadians remain looking for work and the global economic recovery remains fragile. We need to stay the course with our prudent, low-tax plan to support the economic recovery and create jobs. That’s why we must pass and move forward with the Next Phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan: A Low-Tax Plan for Jobs and Growth and keep Canada’s economy on the right track.
