Letters to Ted

Ted, it was great to see you at the Don Mazankowski evening --- a wonderful event in honour of a great Canadian.  I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the evening.

As I watched Maz and listened to the tributes made about him, I had to think about Ted Menzies.  Many people pointed out the respect that Maz had from all parties and all Members of Parliament.  They liked him and they respected him because of the approach he took to the business of advancing public service.

While I only see you operate outside the House, I get the impression that Ted Menzies has many of the same characteristics as don Mazankowski --- and you also have a wonderful smile that is powerful and complements your approach.

Keep up the great work.  It is an honour to have you as my MP.

The journey continues …
Kim

Thank you so very, very much. I have heard from Service Canada just now after your assistance: they are going to help me. I can hardly believe this is true. I can tell you that I haven't voted for ages but I most certainly will be from now on - Ted Menzies has my vote and I know he will have the vote of each member of my family. You are wonderful. I didn't realize such help was available. You have restored my faith in the government and humanity. I have been at the point of exhaustion but at this moment, I feel revived.
Sincerely,
Helen

Hi, Ted:

I want to be sure to thank you for delivering the infrastructure grant for the bridge today!

I do realize we've hassled you shamelessly for a long time, so a formal acknowledgement is appropriate.

Thank you for all the work you have done.  I'm sure you will both be happy with the finished project.

Kind regards
Ed

Hello Ted:

Just a quick note to say thanks for your efforts to help (the) Hamlet get the grant money to start building our water treatment plant. I've been playing sidewalk superintendent at the river side as a local contractor and his crew have been putting their shovels (great big backhoes) in the ground to lay the systems water intake gallery and water mains. It is great to see after 40 or 50 years of trying.

Great work on your part. With any luck I will be shaking your hand at a water plant opening next summer.

In closing thanks as well for the money you gave our Trails Association for the trail up to the Banded Peak School. Keeping people and especially kids off the highway is an excellent thing to do.

I keep reading great things about your work in Ottawa on our behalf. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Dear Ted Menzies,

Just a quick note to say how much I appreciate your answers to opposition questions.

You’re always very clear and detailed and always say exactly what must be said – so many people have short memories these days, and your answers remind people what has been done.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,
Larry

Dear Mr. Menzies and Staff,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Pincher Creek Humane Society/SPCA (and all the animals, past, present and future, in our shelter), I would like to thank you all for helping us.  It was a long and complicated road.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Yours sincerely,
Kathleen Hancock

During final debate in the House of Commons prior to passing of Bill C-293, An Act respecting the provision of official development assistance abroad, the Former Leader of the NDP said:

"I want to be fair here and acknowledge the parliamentary secretary, the honourable member for Macleod, who set out some very severe reservations about some of the aspects of this bill. I think he is the only parliamentary secretary who ever did actually extend the courtesy of sitting down with me in my office to discuss something. We had some major disagreements and there have been some compromises made."

The Honourable Alexa McDonough, MP
Former Leader of the NDP

Dear Mr. Menzies:
I received your mailer requesting feed back to the income tax I'm required to pay for the 2007 tax year. I've just completed them and have the same income and the same deductions I had last year. I'm aware that the basic personal deductions have increased and that the rates have changed slightly. The biggest change is the splitting of pension income. As a result of the changes introduced by this government, I paid $4,560 LESS this year than last year.

For that you have a great big Thank You from us and also our support for the government's fiscal policies.
We also support many other government policies but this is the one you asked about.

Yours Truly
High River, AB

Dear Mr. Menzies:

Thank you for taking the time to speak to my third year class – particularly from your experience of international trade negotiations and the changing context for trade policies in Canada and North America.

The students’ engagement with your presentation could be seen from the way they asked a number of very specific questions that addressed many of the points that you made. I particularly appreciate the way you took the time to actually answer their questions – directly and in a down-to-earth manner that was a clear indication of the way that you talk to your neighbours and constituents in Macleod. This was a refreshing change from the often exaggerated partisanship of parliamentary politics.

Thank you again for taking the time to visit and share your insights and experience with us.

Yours sincerely,
Professor of Politicial Science

“I do want to say to this committee that Ted has been just a great parliamentary secretary. He has a tremendous amount of background in trade, and when I got sick and could not go to India recently, he was required, under very short notice, to take on a very big load, and he did it incredibly well. I just want to acknowledge that to the committee and say thank you, Mr. Menzies. You did a great job. You'll be a great minister one day—according to these guys, hopefully soon.”
