Governments of Canada and Alberta Stimulate Arrowwood Economy
August 24, 2009

Arrowwood – Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, is pleased to announce joint federal and provincial funding to complete a comprehensive infrastructure study of all major infrastructure systems in the village of Arrowwood.  This project is just one example of the commitment of both governments to strengthening the Alberta economy by reducing red tape, creating jobs for Alberta people, and getting shovels in the ground sooner.

The governments of Canada and Alberta will each invest up to $14,667 in the project. The Village of Arrowwood will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost of up to $44,000.

“I am pleased that the residents of Arrowwood will be able to benefit greatly from this joint funding.” said Menzies. “At a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest, this project in Arrowwood will enhance services and create local jobs.”

“This is a great opportunity for the Village of Arrowwood to continue to upgrade and maintain the infrastructure which is so needed.” said Barry McFarland, M.L.A., for Little Bow. “This project has been a long time coming and the benefits from the Building Canada Fund are greatly appreciated in Little Bow.”

This project is one of 157 projects across the province that will break ground quickly thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $444 million. Together with municipal and other contributions, the total investment in local infrastructure improvements in Alberta for the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund exceeds $550 million.  Today’s announcement includes a joint funding contribution of close to $175 million for 96 municipal projects in communities of fewer than 100,000 residents. The governments of Canada and Alberta have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Alberta communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
