Governments of Canada and Alberta Create Jobs, Build Communities in Okotoks
May 22, 2009
Okotoks--Residents of Okotoks will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to rehabilitate the town’s Performing Arts Center, announced today by Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and the Honourable George Groeneveld, MLA for Highwood and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.  This project is just one example of the commitment of both governments to strengthen the economy, create jobs and improve the quality of life for its residents.

This project will enhance local facilities and services and create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest.

The governments of Canada and Alberta will each invest up to $333,333.00 in the project. The Town of Okotoks will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost of up to $1,000,000.00.

“Our government is providing resources for communities and cities to help protect and promote a clean environment, to increase their economic prosperity, and to build a stronger Canada for generations to come.” said Menzies. “I am proud to be a part of a government that sees the need to provide funding for rehabilitation of arts centres which will create local jobs for residents in the area.”

“The Performing Arts Centre in Okotoks plays an important role in the community. This funding will help ensure the centre is able to serve the arts community in Okotoks for years to come,” said Minister Groeneveld.

This project is one of more than 73 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $227 million announced on May 21. The governments of Canada and Alberta have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Alberta communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
