Governments of Canada and Alberta Create Jobs, Build Communities in the Foothills
May 22, 2009
Foothills--Residents of Foothills will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to extend 498 Avenue, announced today by Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and the Honourable George Groeneveld, MLA for Highwood and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. This project is just one example of the commitment of both governments to strengthen the economy, create jobs and improve the quality of life for its residents. This project will improve transportation efficiency and create local jobs, at a time when the need for economic stimulus is greatest. The governments of Canada and Alberta will each invest up to $3,000,000.00 in the project. The Municipality of Foothills will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost of up to $9,282,000.00 “This funding reaffirms the importance of partnership in accomplishing significant and positive change in our communities, our province and our country.” said Menzies. “It is important funds for the MD of Foothills and will provide the needed economic stimulus for the area. Furthermore, the extension of 498 Avenue will help decrease traffic congestion and ease traffic flow.” “Funding for this project will not only help create more jobs in our region, but it will also improve transportation for those who live and work in and around Foothills”, Minister Groeneveld. This project is one of more than 73 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $227 million announced on May 21. The governments of Canada and Alberta have taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in Alberta communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
