April 02, 2009
Black Diamond, Alberta, April 2, 2009— Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod will announce, on April 25th, the federal support for the Sheep River Community Library under the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. Menzies will make this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Marjory LeBreton, Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister of State (Seniors). Menzies will highlight funding for the Sheep River Community Library to help ensure that seniors have the opportunity to participate and take an active leadership role within their community. “The Government of Canada is proud to support seniors in strengthening our communities and building our country,” said Menzies. “This project will encourage seniors in Black Diamond to continue sharing their skills, wisdom and experience to benefit others.” The Sheep River Community Library received funding for its Seniors Literary Outreach Project, through which volunteer seniors will make large print and audio material from the Sheep River Community Library available to seniors residing in the assisted living facility of the High Country Lodge. This investment falls under the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which encourages seniors to continue to play an important role in their communities by helping those in need, providing leadership, and sharing their knowledge and skills with others.
