Volunteers recognized for providing outstanding service to seniors

Recently, Bob Thompson was recognized by the Province of Alberta and awarded the Minister’s Seniors Service Award for his service and volunteerism on behalf of seniors.

In and around Claresholm, Mr. Thompson has been active in serving the community through tireless volunteer work with the Willow Creek Auxiliary Hospital, the Lions club, the Heritage Drop-in Centre and meals on Wheels. His fundraising skills have contributed to a van for the hospital, which Mr. Thompson uses to drive patients on shopping trips and excursions, and to purchase medical equipment for the hospital.

In addition, Mr. Thompson has served as the president of the seniors centre and has used his handyman skills to maintain and update the Heritage Drop-in Centre, including its recent project to update the centre and roof replacement.

The Minister's Seniors Service Awards recognize individuals and organizations who demonstrate commitment to enhancing the lives of seniors by providing seniors exceptional voluntary service in Alberta.

Mr. Thompson, along with five other individuals, received their Awards from Premier Ed Stelmach on June 6th in Edmonton. More information on the awards and other recipients can be found on the Alberta Seniors and Community Supports website at www.seniors.gov.ab.ca.
