Menzies Announces Funding for Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park

Siksika, Alberta – Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, is pleased to announce a $230,000 investment towards the Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park to support the further development of the Park’s national and international tourism marketing program.

“Aboriginal tourism has the potential to become a driving force behind economic development in this region,” said Mr. Menzies. “Today’s investment will help the Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park better showcase Siksika Culture. We are working together to create new opportunities and new jobs for a stronger community.”

The investment from Western Economic Diversification Canada, made through its Western Diversification Program, will receive a matching investment from the Siksika First Nation for a total project cost of $460,000.  The funding will support the Siksika First Nation take advantage of new opportunities for economic growth and diversification by developing Blackfoot Crossing into a national and international tourism destination. 

The project will identify international tourism markets, establish a marketing strategy, develop a tourism package for international tour operators, and build linkages with other tourist sites in the region.  The Park will also improve its marketability and visitor experience with the addition of a new arbour to host future events.  The improved profile of the Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park is expected to strengthen the local economy by increasing the number of visitors and creating more business opportunities in the area.
