Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance would like to advise the citizens of his constituency that a coalition by the opposition parties would be detrimental to the livelihood of rural Canadians.
The proposed separatist coalition would extend the Long-Gun Registry and seriously undermine all of the work done by the Conservative Government to make positive changes to this legislation. This would also mean the end of the initiative to end the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) monopoly.
“The separatist coalition puts rural Canadians’ issues and priorities in jeopardy and on the backburner.” said a concerned Menzies. “Furthermore, there are still economic stimulus measures which are supposed to come into effect on January 1st which will not happen with this undemocratic, separatist coalition.”
The Member also went on to raise concern that this new deal gives a powerful and troubling veto over Government initiatives to a separatist party. “I fear with the new makeshift coalition that if a policy is not perceived as being in the interest of separatist aspirations in Quebec, then it will not move forward,” explained the Parliamentary Secretary.
The stability of the government and the economy is vital and a separatist coalition at this time is irrational, and as illustrated by Monday’s worst ever decline in the TSX is causing concern among investors. Such a coalition would be an insult to the democratic will of Canadians, since Canadians provided us with a strengthened mandate on October 14th, 2008, only 6 weeks ago.
