Conservatives to focus on economic issues

OTTAWA – The Prime Minister has reaffirmed his absolute confidence in Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod by re-appointing him as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance.  This is a position of great importance particularly in these times of international economic uncertainty.  Mr. Menzies will continue to assist Minister Flaherty with his Parliamentary responsibilities as well as representing Minister Flaherty in the House of Commons and Committees.

“We have pledged to do whatever it takes to weather this economic storm and for Canada to emerge stronger than ever,” said Mr. Menzies.  “It is indeed an honour and privilege for me to serve this country in this capacity and I will continue to act decisively in these turbulent times.”

The position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance holds immense responsibilities in these times of economic turmoil and it is essential that the Department of Finance’s legislative duties be managed consistently and competently.  It is crucial that the Government’s agenda is guided responsibility through the House of Commons.

“Our economic strategy is to continue on the course of prudent and planned discipline while balancing stability and efficiency,” said Menzies. “Canada will continue to demonstrate economic leadership and continue to work with other nations to ensure future prosperity for all Canadian families and businesses.”
