Menzies looks forward to successful session of Parliament
October 25, 2007
Ottawa –Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod, is looking forward to a successful session in the House of Commons. Last night, the House of Commons voted to pass the Speech from the Throne, delivered on October 16th. This allows the Government to begin implementing the mandate set out in the Speech from the Throne. “Although the Liberals were absent from last night’s vote, I am extremely glad that our Government has passed this hurdle and can now continue governing Canada,” said Menzies. “The agenda set out in the Speech from the Throne is ambitious and will move Canada forward, making a better Canada for all Canadians.” While debating the Speech from the Throne on October 23rd, Menzies highlighted the Government’s commitment to a long-term plan of broad-based tax relief for individuals, businesses and families. This commitment is a part of the Government’s priority to provide effective economic leadership, outlined in the Throne Speech. Other priorities outlined in the Throne Speech include strengthening Canada’s sovereignty and place in the world; strengthening the federation and our democratic institutions; tackling crime and strengthening the security of Canadians; and improving the environment and health of Canadians. The Government has already begun implementing the Throne Speech by introducing Bill C-2, the Tackling Violent Crimes Act, which includes measures from five separate crime bills that were studied in the last session of Parliament and unnecessarily obstructed and delayed by the opposition. “This session of Parliament has the opportunity to better the future for all Canadians and I am looking forward to playing an active and engaged role in moving Canada forward,” concluded Menzies. - 30 - For more information, contact: |
